Psychic Bazaar interviews Ann Murkett

In this weeks interview, we contacted Ann Murkett (of ‘Annikin Divination Systems’) who runs two very popular and respected Tarot websites – www.mydivination.com and www.mytarotspreads.com

1. Why did you decide to create MyDivination.com?

myDivination.com is a vehicle for Annikin Divination Systems which was
created in 1998 and launched in August of that year. Annikin is the
key to the success of the website. It embraces the heart and the soul
of the technology in which we believe and others can attest to. A
new updated site will be launched in the next few months and then we
will fly.

2. Are you finding there are any current trends in deck popularity?

myDivination.com offers all types of decks from Tarot to Rune and from
Oracle to Cartomancy. All types of decks are popular on the site. As
you will know or have seen, most decks appear to be Rider Waite
clones, and people can identify with these. Some decks are not really
aimed at true beginners, but there are many websites which offer help.

3. Do you have a favourite Tarot Deck, and if so, why is it your favourite?

I have a personal collection of differing decks of all types not just
Tarot. If I have to name a Tarot deck which is not on the site it
will be the Morgan Greer Tarot deck for its colours

4. What’s your opinion on modern interpretations of the Tarot?
For example, cartoon-like decks such as ‘The Undersea Tarot’ – a step
forward for the Tarot deck or the dilution of a classic?

I believe you have to move forward and modern decks play their part.
My first deck was the classic Swiss 1JJ Tarot and I found it very
difficult to understand, although others feel it is their true deck.
As a beginner I thought it was me and not understanding was the
problem, but when I switched to the classic Rider Waite deck, I felt
more at ease and moved forward. Over the last few years there have
been an abundance of new decks. It is so wonderful to see where their
creators’ minds take them. Many people become avid collectors and it
is great to know that they are there to preserve some of the older
decks, as well as the modern.

5. How relevant do you feel Tarot cards are in 2012 and why?

Tarot will always be relevant in any year. It will not always give
you a definitive answer, but it will give you pointers and help you
move ahead.

6. We love the reading engine on your website – are there any
spreads that seem to be more popular than others?

Love and relationships will always be at the forefront, but I am
finding that decisions, and past, present and future concerns are
becoming more prominent. The Celtic Cross is always popular. On the
whole, people use 1 – 5 card spreads on the site. In fact the one
card Annikin Here and Now is the most popular of all. Somehow, if a
person really needs help it is given.

7. Do you think technology will affect the want and/or need to
own a physical tarot deck? And if so, how?

On the whole I believe people will own at least one deck, if they are
interested in the subject. I know people have found it helpful to be
able to see the deck in action before they buy. Also on your site you
give the opportunity to view some of the cards. In a shop you can
just see the box and the top card under a wrapper

8. Are there any decks you’ll be adding to the site in the next few weeks?

We are on the look out for new decks, I am always emailing deck
creators and publishers, and am just waiting for replies at the
moment.

9. What has been your highlight so far of running MyDivination.com?

The highlight for me is knowing that the site has helped people to
move forward on their chosen pathway.

10. As a final question, could you sum up MyDivination.com in five words?

Capturing the moment to come

Ann is currently working in partnership with Richard Shadowfox of Shadowfox Tarot
and Tarot Deck of Heroes to create a new deck entitled ‘Tarot of the Telling’, which is currently in it’s early stages of production. We’re very much looking forward to it’s release! If you’d like to connect with Ann, make sure to visit her Facebookpage, as well as her two marvellous websites, www.mydivination.com and www.mytarotspreads.com
